Description
A stunning aquatic plant for your underwater garden.
Experience a touch of aquatic elegance with our Pearlweed (Hemianthus micranthemoides). This versatile, exotic plant is an ideal addition to any freshwater aquarium, adding vibrancy and depth to your underwater world.
Pearlweed is known for its delicate, thin stems that grow densely together, creating lush mats when grown as a carpeting plant or providing a beautiful foreground or background accent. In high light conditions, this fascinating plant develops tiny bubbles that string upwards to the water surface, giving it the name ‘pearlweed’. This unique feature adds an enchanting shimmer effect to your aquarium, making it a popular choice among aquascapers and hobbyists alike.
Care Instructions
– Water Parameters: pH range 6.0 – 7.5, KH 3 – 8 dGH, Temperature 72°F – 82°F (22°C – 28°C)
– Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended for optimal growth and bubble production.
– Substrate: Fine gravel or sand for carpeting. Use a nutrient-rich aquatic soil for foreground/background plantings.
– Fertilization: Regularly fertilize with a balanced liquid fertilizer, either through the water column or in the substrate.
– Maintenance: Trim the top parts of the stems regularly to maintain plant health and prevent algae growth. This allows for light to reach the bottom if growth is dense, and promotes new growth.
– Propagation: Easily propagated by cutting stems and replanting them at the desired location. Allow several weeks for new roots to develop before trimming further.
Tips for Successful Growth:
– Acclimate new plants gradually to avoid shocking your aquarium’s water parameters (pH in particular).
– Use CO2 supplementation in high-tech tanks for rapid growth and bubble production, though CO2 is not necessary for healthy growth.
– Regularly monitor water quality and maintain good water flow to ensure healthy growth.
Cover your aquascape substrate with the beautiful pearlweed carpet or let them grow tall in the back. Bring the magic of pearls to your very own aquarium!
