Description
Known by common names like Roundleaf Lindernia and Round-leaved Boxwort, Lindernia rotundifolia is a charming stem plant characterized by its striking round, opposite leaves along the stem. Originating from wetlands and slow-moving water bodies across Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas, this adaptable plant is popular in the aquarium hobby for its ease of care and attractive appearance. It can grow both submerged in the aquarium or emersed above the waterline.
Care
Lindernia rotundifolia is relatively easy to care for. It thrives in a range of water parameters, but benefits significantly from nutrient-rich substrate and regular liquid fertilization covering both macro and micronutrients. While it tolerates low light and no added CO2, moderate light and CO2 supplementation will result in denser, faster growth. Maintain temperatures between 18-28°C and a pH of 6.0-7.5 for optimal health.

Propagation
Propagation is easily achieved through stem cuttings. Simply cut a healthy section of the stem, ideally with a few nodes, and replant it directly into the substrate. The plant will readily grow roots from the nodes. It also produces lateral side shoots or runners which can be separated and replanted.
Trimming
Regular trimming of the top portions of the stems will encourage bushier growth by promoting lateral shoots. Cut stems can be replanted to increase plant density or propagate new plants. Remove any purely green shoots from variegated forms to preserve the variegation.
Notes, Tips, and Considerations
- This is the variegated form, sometimes called ‘Baby’s Tears’, which features white or yellow markings on the leaves. These variegated shoots may revert to green and should be trimmed off if you wish to maintain the variegated appearance.
- Adequate nutrients, particularly iron, will help ensure vibrant green coloration.
