Care
To care for water wisteria, provide moderate to high lighting to encourage compact, bushy growth and prevent the plant from becoming leggy. While it’s adaptable, a nutrient-rich substrate like sand or fine gravel is beneficial for its delicate root system. CO₂ supplementation isn’t required but will significantly enhance its growth and vibrancy. Regular dosing with a balanced liquid fertilizer and the use of root tabs are recommended to keep it healthy and thriving.
Propagation
Propagating water wisteria is remarkably simple. The most common method is by taking cuttings. Snip the top 5 inches from a healthy stem and replant it directly into the substrate. These cuttings will quickly develop roots and grow into new, independent plants. It’s even possible for new growth to sprout from small pieces of leaves. Cuttings can also be left to float near the water surface until roots form before planting.
Trimming
Regular trimming is necessary to maintain its shape and prevent it from overshadowing other plants. Simply cut the stems to the desired height. The trimmed portions can be replanted to propagate new plants or discarded.
