Description
Ludwigia palustris ‘super red’ is an upright aquatic stem plant identifiable by its pointed, intensely crimson leaves. It originates from cosmopolitan wetland habitats and exhibits fast, vertical growth in the aquarium. Its vibrant color makes it an excellent choice for midground or background placement. The plant forms dense canopies that provide natural shade and physical shelter for shrimp and small fish.
Care
Plant stems directly into soil or fine gravel. Provide medium to high light; brighter light directly yields deeper red leaf coloration. Supply liquid iron and macronutrients to support continuous growth. CO2 injection is optional but creates faster, thicker foliage. Maintain moderate water flow to keep the delicate leaves free of detritus.
Propagation
Propagate this plant by taking stem cuttings. Cut a healthy upper portion of the stem, ensuring it has several leaves. Insert the cut end gently into the substrate. The remaining rooted bottom half will sprout new side branches, quickly increasing the density of your plant group.
Trimming
Trim stems when they approach the water surface to prevent the plant from blocking light to lower areas. Cut cleanly above a leaf node. Remove any heavily shaded, leafless bottom stems. Replanting the bright top cuttings maintains a compact, healthy appearance.

Notes, Tips, and Considerations
-
